Today we share the details of our 2019 Evening Events Programme. We are delighted to have secured the culinary talents of two Marlborough based chefs and will be supporting their efforts with premium NZ produce.
Tuesday 25 June
Tastes & Tunes is our opening night ‘ice breaker’. We will travel (a short 5 minute walk) into the Blenheim CBD to the popular 5 Tapped lounge for a social and relaxed tasting event. 15 of our OWNZ members will be on hand to pour a selection of wine from their portfolio. Karaka Cuisine is our chef d’jour. Sander and his Karaka food truck is well know across Marlborough and he has designed a menu of light bites to complement our upbeat tasting event. Wander over to the loading bay and grab yourself a plate or find a cosy perch by the charcuterie station. The night is completed by DJ Fran who will be spinning soul and R&B records from 5 Tapped’s purpose built loft. Famous for their five rotating beer taps, 5 Tapped will have a delicious selection available for purchase on the night.

We are thrilled to announce that Arbour restaurant will be presenting our Organic & Wild gala dinner. Marlborough is incredibly lucky to have a 1 Hat restaurant in the heart of their wine country and the ethos of owner/operators Bradley & Liz emulates OWNZ’s commitment to celebrating the best of NZ. Arbour will be serving a mix of organic, local, wild and foraged foods to complement the amazing selection of wines that will be on show. “Arbour is surrounded by some of the best names in Organic and Biodynamic wine,” says Liz Buttimore. “We love their passion and we love introducing our guests to their product. We had such great fun being involved in the inaugural Organic Wine Week last year that when asked to provide the dinner for the Organic and Biodynamic Winegrowing Conference we were excited to say yes”.
The gala dinner will again be held on the ASB theatre main stage and will host 220 guests. Local and wild produce from Cloudy Bay Clams and Premium Game will feature on the menu, as will delicious free range organic chicken raised by the Bostock Brothers from Hawke’s Bay. “We focus on quality and are committed to producing better tasting chicken that has been nurtured from the pasture to your plate,” says Bostock Brothers co-owner George Bostock. As one of our keynote speakers, George will elaborate on their organic chicken business and their drive to create a sustainable farming model.
“Bradley and his team always do such a great job showcasing the unique flavours of our products,” says Cloudy Bay Clams marketing manager Iona Tyney-Fraser. “Our clams are wild harvested from the pristine waters of Cloudy Bay in Marlborough, where they develop their flavours in the turbulent surf zone of the nutrient-rich waters”. Cloudy Bay Clams are committed to farming sustainably to ensure they are able to provide their products for many more generations to come. They are certified by ‘Friend of the Sea’ for their efforts.
Brothers and Premium Game owner/operators Darren and Nick Clifford share a family passion for field to plate food experiences. “We hand harvest wild meat with MPI registered hunters and lead a team of traditionally skilled butchers committed to consistently delivering premium, game meat,” says Nick. Audited by AsureQuality, each animal is traced to the land they have come from and have never been subject to GMO, Hormones or Antibiotics. “Premium Game meat really is ‘nothing but nature’,” adds Nick.
Organic Winegrowers NZ is looking forward to showcasing the best of New Zealand produce at their Organic and Wild gala dinner. The pièce de résistance will be the world class selection of their member wines.

Wrapping up the evening line up is our International Wine Bunker event. Hosted in the recently completed Anderson Theatre, this venue is the perfect backdrop to our ‘prohibition’ styled tasting lounge. Executive board member and organic winemaking consultant Clive Dougall has been tasked with the job of curating a diverse, delicious and engaging international wine list with the intention of highlighting that many of the worlds best wines are in fact organic and or biodynamic. Live blues music will set the tone of the evening and Karaka Cuisine will be serving slow cooked bbq and light bites throughout.
$95 - all inclusive
“Karaka Cuisine is excited to play such a significant part in the Organic & Biodynamic Winegrowing conference”, says chef/owner Sander de Wildt. “We will be showcasing premium produce, prepared with a light touch to ensure that the efforts of the farmer are highlighted”. Karaka will also be providing the conference’s daytime catering and has worked with the organising committee to create a low waste conference experience. They will be providing a wash station for daytime crockery and drink ware and are using compostable packaging (which will be shredded and incorporated into local winery compost programmes) amongst other forward thinking initiatives.
Tickets are limited for evening events so don’t delay in securing you seat.
